FOOTBALL fans could be cheering on their team from a new stand within a matter of months.

Haddington Athletic received planning permission for the 158-seater stand, which will be on the opposite side of the pitch from the existing enclosure, in August last year.

Initially, it was hoped that the stand could be in place in time for the start of the 2024/25 season, but work was not able to progress as quickly as the club had hoped.

Drew Donaldson, chairman of the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) Premier Division side, was pleased to say that work was now, finally, under way at Millfield.

He said: “We are delighted.

“It has been a bit of a tortuous process with a few false dawns but we are now a bit more confident.”

Mr Donaldson has been involved with the county side for more than 50 years and previously described the planned stand as “the last piece of the jigsaw”.

Haddington will become the fourth of the six East Lothian senior football clubs to offer a seated stand, following in the footsteps of Dunbar United’s New Countess Park, Preston Athletic’s Pennypit Park and Tranent’s Foresters Park.
