CHILDREN in Tranent are being invited to register to be part of next year’s gala court, with boys in primary seven particularly encouraged to join in.

Registration for the event is taking place at the Loch Centre on Saturday, from 10am to 1pm.

P1 girls can register to be fairies on the court, P3 boys and girls can register to be flower girls and page boys, while P7 boys and girls can register to be the consort, queen, maids or heralds.

The draw for the court will be made at the town’s Christmas lights switch-on, taking place on Winton Place on Sunday, November 24.

Lynn Herkes, vice-secretary for the Tranent Gala committee, is looking forward to the 2025 event following a “really fab” occasion this year.

She said: “Next year is going to be much the same again because we know what works, it was such a success this year.

“We’re just hoping that kids get involved.

“The hardest is primary seven boys, there’s always fewer of them. But we had a full court last year, so hopefully the trend is going upwards.”

Children who wish to take part must live in Tranent or attend a school in the town, and the gala committee is encouraging as many children as possible to be a part of the summer event.

Next year's gala day will take place on June 1.
