NORTH Berwick High Street is to be closed to traffic from tomorrow to allow for resurfacing to take place.
Works will be carried out in three stages over seven working days, with all roads open on Saturday and Sunday.
The first phase begins tomorrow (Monday, October 21), with the High Street closed from Market Place to Church Road until Wednesday (October 23).
Phase two affects Westgate between Church Road and Westend Place, which will be closed on Thursday, Friday and next Monday (October 24, 25 and 28).
During the third phase on Tuesday, October 29, Church Road will be closed.
Pedestrian and emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout and a diversion route will be in place for all other traffic.
Refuse and recycling bins will be emptied as normal and local access will be maintained where practical to affected sections of road.
East Lothian Council are undertaking a full resurfacing of the High Street, following temporary work in March this year to fill potholes.

Tom Reid, East Lothian Council’s head of infrastructure, said: “Resurfacing of these areas has been carefully planned to minimise inconvenience to business and residents by, for example, undertaking works in phases and reversing the one-way systems on Market Place, Church Road and Westend Place at points to allow traffic and buses to continue to access High Street as much as possible.
“Roads officers will be visiting businesses to let them know of the works and access arrangements during the period.
“We undertook temporary repair work in the area in March following discussions with North Berwick Community Council, and had plans in place to carry out this full resurfacing in autumn outwith the town’s busy summer period to reduce impact.
“We are grateful to the local community for their support during the works, which we know many have been keen to see progress.”
