FLOOD barriers are being put in place alongside the River Esk in Musselburgh amid fears of flooding.

East Lothian Council made the announcement this afternoon (Friday) and confirmed the situation would be monitored over the coming days.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “With high tides expected and the possibility of coastal flooding over the weekend/into the start of next week, pedestrian flood barriers are being placed on the footpath between New Street and the mouth of the River Esk in Musselburgh, as a precautionary measure.

“Teams will be monitoring the situation in the days ahead.”
