POLICE recorded 82 crimes in the wider Tranent area over the past four weeks.

A total of 287 calls from the area were made in the period between September 17 and October 14, according to a policing report presented to Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council last Tuesday.

The report is broken down into five priorities: protecting the most vulnerable; reducing violence and anti-social behaviour; reducing acquisitive crime; improving road safety; and tackling serious and organised crime.

There were 13 reports of assault over the four weeks, five of which resulted in injury.

Incidents of careless and dangerous driving, driving without insurance and failing to stop were highlighted in the report, while three cases of driving under the influence of drugs and one of driving while over the legal limit for alcohol were also recorded.

The majority of crimes recorded by the police came under the second category of reducing violence and anti-social behaviour.

Eight instances of threatening and abusive behaviour were reported, alongside six acts of vandalism and three reports of carrying a knife.

The reducing acquisitive crime category revealed 16 examples of theft, including seven by shoplifting and three by housebreaking.

Four cases of possession of drugs were reported under serious crime.

The ward’s community and police partnership (CAPP) agreed that "youth disorder at Macmerry" and "anti-social driving at Meadowmill Car Park" were immediate priorities.
