DOUBLE yellow lines put down by East Lothian Council in a car park next to a busy primary school have never been enforceable.
Restrictions were put in place in the car park outside Hallhill Sports Centre, which neighbours the Lochend Woods campus of Dunbar Primary School, three years ago.
However, it has transpired that the area was never included in any Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) banning drivers from parking in the area.
On Monday, a number of parents took to social media after being issued tickets in the area on the same day as youngsters were being dropped off for a school camp.
The issue was highlighted to Councillor Donna Collins and, within a matter of hours, the tickets were cancelled.

Now, it has been revealed that the yellow lines, installed as part of the Spaces for People programme in 2021, have never been enforceable.
A spokesperson for East Lothian Council confirmed that a further seven tickets had been issued over the last three years.
It is expected those tickets will now be scrapped.
Discussions will now take place with landowners Hallhill Ltd about the potential to make the double yellow lines enforceable.
A local authority spokesperson told the Courier: “Seven penalty charge notices (PCNs) that were issued on Monday on a section of the car park next to Kellie Road have been cancelled.

“The PCNs were issued to drivers parked on double yellow lines near to Dunbar Primary School.
“These road safety measures were introduced through consultation with Hallhill Ltd, who are responsible for this car park.
“However, it has emerged that this section of road within the car park does not have a Traffic Regulation Order in place and the notices are not enforceable.
“We apologise to the drivers concerned for this confusion.
“It remains the case that high volumes of traffic around schools pose an increased safety risk to children and parents which is why these measures are necessary.
“East Lothian Council will be liaising with Hallhill Ltd who are responsible for this car park and support them to addressing road safety at this location.”
