A BID for a drive-thru Starbucks on the outskirts of Musselburgh has taken a step forward.

Permission was already in place for a drive-thru coffee shop at the eastern end of the revamped roadside services at Monktonhall, off the Edinburgh City Bypass and A1.

Already, Greggs, Miss Millie’s Friend Chicken and Londis are in place alongside the petrol station.

Now, East Lothian Council’s planning department has given permission to Ormiston-based Burton & Speke for various signs highlighting the drive-thru coffee shop.

Drawings included with the application, which received no objections from members of the public, show the Starbucks logo and various other signs for the coffee giant.

The council’s roads department also made no objection and were satisfied the signs “would not cause undue driver distraction or impede sightlines and do not therefore constitute a risk to public safety”.
