A MAN who was spotted waving a pole around as he walked along a Musselburgh street has been ordered to wear an electronic tagging device for six months.
Mark Drummond will have to stay within his home in Mayfield between 7pm and 7am every night for the next six months after he admitted possessing an offensive weapon, namely the pole.
Drummond was making his way on foot from Tranent to Dalkeith when passing police officers spotted him “swinging” the large pole as he walked along Olive Bank Road in Musselburgh at about 7.40am on September 3 last year.

The 22-year-old claimed that the officers had “targeted” him and believed he was doing nothing wrong during the incident.
But he was arrested and charged with possessing the broken pole and admitted the offence during an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
Drummond was back in the dock for sentencing last week, where Sheriff Gillian Sharp issued him with a direct alternative to a custodial sentence.
Drummond was placed under the supervision of the social work department for 24 months and told he will be tagged for six months.
The unemployed offender was also ordered to attend alcohol counselling sessions when required to do so.
