TWO National Trust for Scotland locations in East Lothian are now part of the East Lothian Gift Card initiative.

The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) has joined forces with the gift card scheme to promote local exploration and spending.

The gift card works alongside the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card initiative, led by Scotland’s Towns Partnership and Miconex.

The move aims to boost the economy and improve the county's tourism credentials (Image: Miconex) And it is now accepted at Newhailes House and Gardens in Musselburgh, and Preston Mill and Phantassie Doocot, near East Linton.

The gift cards can be used for admission, in on-site gift shops and in cafes, supporting local suppliers.

Andrew Roberts, head of retail at NTS, said: "Partnering with Scotland Loves Local Gift Cards and the East Lothian Gift Card is an excellent opportunity for us to engage with our local communities, encouraging them to visit our amazing places and support the trust’s vital conservation work."

The East Lothian Gift Card, introduced in 2018, can be spent at more than 120 local businesses, including shops, restaurants and attractions.

It has already generated more than £200,000 in local spending.

Kimberley Guthrie, chief officer of Scotland’s Towns Partnership, said: "It's fantastic to have the National Trust for Scotland on board with the East Lothian Gift Card and the Scotland Loves Local campaign.

"This is an important step forward in locking in spend and encouraging people to explore what's on offer in their local area, whilst offering gift card users a greater choice on where to spend."
