A county village was abuzz with activity when a large film crew started shooting the new feature film, Borges & Me

The Courier previously reported that filming was to take place in the village of Gifford from Monday to Friday, with the name of the production not known at the time.

However, a number of the village's residents received letters that Borges & Me was to be shot before the filming began in Gifford.

The letter started with the headline: BORGES & ME

It went onto say: "I am writing to you on behalf of VIVA MOMENTUM LTD to inform you of our plans to film scenes for a new feature film being made in and around Edinburgh and Gifford.

"Based on Jay Parini's 'novelised memoir' tells the story of a surreal journey through Scotland as a graduate student in St Andrews in the 1970s."

Now with the crew all packed-up, a passer-by, who took pictures of the crew in the centre of the village, talked to the Courier about what they saw at about 9am on Friday.

From the snaps, a large lorry, along with numerous people can be seen preparing for shooting with equipment sprawled over the green opposite the Tweeddale Arms and Carla's K9 Cuts.

Claire Pentland, the passer-by, said: “It was really cool to see the filming in Gifford.

"Gifford is so picturesque so I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

"The amount of crew that was involved was unbelievable.

"It was all quite exciting for a Friday morning."

It has been reported by a number of entertainment publications that Fionn Whitehead, Luis Gnecco, Alan Cumming will feature in the production.

Filming for Borges & Me in Gifford is now expected to continue on Haddington's high street on October 27 and 28.
