A HOUSING developer has announced that it will donate more than £6,000 to a Dunbar community charity.

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland has confirmed it will hand over £25 for each new home sold and legally completed at its Belhaven Way development, up to 245 homes, to Dunbar Shed.

This means a total of £6,125 will be paid to the charity as work progresses over the next few years.

The cash will help fund the charity's work in Dunbar, which aims to help people make friends, improve their health and reduce loneliness, as well as supporting community projects.

The firm said that the donation marked the start of a long-term relationship with the charity.

The Shed, based at Dunbar Business Centre on Spott Road, is a well-equipped workshop run by a few multi-skilled volunteers.

It is free to join and people over 18 can use the facilities or get help making their own creations.

Bob Fleet, from Dunbar Shed, said: "We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from Taylor Wimpey East Scotland and we can't thank them enough for their generous donation.

"On behalf of everyone who uses Dunbar Shed's local services, I would like to say a huge thank you.

"As well as building their own creations, people who come to the Shed can get involved in the various community projects we support.

"This year we’re also building bird boxes."

Kirsty McGill, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: "We are delighted to be able to support Dunbar Shed in this meaningful way.

“Being able to support and work with local charities and organisations that surround our developments means a great deal to us, and it’s always lovely to know that we are helping to make a difference in the lives of people in our local communities.”
