EAST Lothian's former MSP revealed 'How East Lothian made the world' at a special talk to a local history society
Founded in 1989, Tranent Local History Society meets once a month at Tranent Day Care Centre on Sandersons Wynd, with guests delivering talks on a range of historical topics and periods.
Meetings are followed by tea and biscuits, and the opportunity for informal chats between members.
The society kicked off its 2024/25 programme last with a talk by Iain Gray, East Lothian's MSP between 2007 and 2021, entitled 'How East Lothian made the world'.
He discussed the numerous natives of East Lothian who had made major contributions in many different fields.
Next up on the schedule was a guided talk by Dr Arran Johnson, a historian, heritage consultant and battle re-enactor, on Saturday at the Battle of Prestonpans Jacobite Museum at Prestonpans Town Hall.
Looking ahead, the society will be welcoming guests to discuss the Bronze Age, Georgian fashion, Scottish bridges and the origins of modern golf.
Visitors are always welcome and annual membership costs £10.
