STAFF and customers at a popular pub are raising a glass after being toasted by fans of real ale.

Dunbar’s Volunteer Arms was named in the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide for 2025.

The pub, on the town’s Victoria Street, has featured regularly in the guide, which is testament to the consistently high standard of cask condition beer served in the pub.

Sue Kyle, who co-owns the pub with Donald Wright, told the Courier: “It is lovely to be named in the Good Beer Guide.

“It is great for business and great for everything.”

Pat Hanson, local branch former chair for the Edinburgh and South-East Scotland branch of CAMRA, was on hand to present a certificate at the pub.

CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide is the UK’s best-selling beer and pub guide and has been toasted over more than 50 years.

The Guide, which surveys 4,500 of the best pubs across the UK, is described as the definitive beer drinker’s guide for those seeking the best pints in the nation’s pubs.

Stuart McCombie, CAMRA member, said: “Cask ale in ‘The Vollies’ is served by way of two hand pull pumps.

“The Volunteer Arms has consistently been the ‘go to’ pub in Dunbar for lovers of real ale.

“The Good Beer Guide includes pubs that have consistently good beer scores.

“The pubs included in the Guide are selected by CAMRA branches across the country.

“These pubs are considered Britain's best.

“The Volunteer Arms is amongst them.

“CAMRA members submit their beer sores based on the National Beer Scoring System (NBSS).

“Scores are used to inform decisions on which pubs are nominated by the Branch for the Good Beer Guide.

“It’s a combination of local and visiting CAMRA members that have regularly voted ‘The Vollies’ as a great pub with great beer that have, once again, ensured its inclusion in The Good Beer Guide.”
