FOOD initiatives at schools in East Lothian have benefited from a £1,500 cash boost from the Musselburgh Over 50’s Club.
Carol Edmond and Jeanette Ret, from the club, visited Musselburgh Burgh Primary School, Preston Tower Primary School in Prestonpans and Ross High School in Tranent to hand over cheques for £500 to each school.
They were given a tour of the breakfast room on their visit to Musselburgh Burgh Primary School after donating a cheque to the free Nurture Breakfast Club.
At Ross High, Nicky Bidder, principal teacher of equity, received a cheque for the school’s breakfast cafe.
The initiative was launched on August 26, shortly after the school returned from summer holidays, and is open to all pupils from 8am to 8.30am every day.
Available free of charge is a choice of toast, bagels, crumpets with butter and jam, and orange or apple juice.
The food is provided by charity Magic Breakfast, which works to help end child hunger, and a donation from East Lothian Educational Trust helped to make this resource available in the school.
At Preston Tower Primary School, the funding will be used to help with food-based activities.
Musselburgh Over 50’s Club raises cash for local groups through raffles, bingo and events.
