THE team behind an initiative offering people access to food and essential toiletries have been 'bouled' over by a fundraising event.

Dunbar FoodShare was chosen as the recipient as Dunbar Community Pétanque Club held a tombola and open day at the end of last month.

The whole event was led by Eileen Bailey from the club’s committee and raised more than £500.

Dunbar FoodShare aims to offer clients dignity of choice and is moving away from the concept of offering pre-packed bags of food to clients.

Instead, clients are helped to access food and essential toiletries. This can be done through providing them with store cards and high street vouchers, as well as still offering clients the opportunity to visit stocked cabinets of food, toiletries and cleaning products.

A spokesperson for Dunbar Community Pétanque Club said: “Under the watchful eye of our club mascot, ‘Johnny Muir’, a cheque for £556.21 was presented by Stuart McCombie, chairperson of Dunbar Community Pétanque, to Margaret Croft, of Dunbar FoodShare.

“Margaret expressed her sincere gratitude on behalf of everyone involved with Dunbar Foodshare.

“Several bags of food items were also collected and donated to the FoodShare team.

“This is one of the pétanque club's final events of the season, although the members continue to play throughout the winter.

“It has been a remarkably busy year, with the club joining the local league and several members of the club being chosen to represent Scotland in various competitions across the country.

“At home, our community facility entertained various schools and community groups for taster sessions supported by club members.”
