LONG-TERM funding for a facility in Tranent that focuses on young people struggling with their mental health has been called for by an MSP.
Craig Hoy, South Scotland MSP, recently visited The Haven, a family-focused service integrated with the CAHMS service to provide an early intervention solution to prevent children from requiring inpatient care.
The Haven is located in The Fraser Centre and the new pilot service is funded by the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.
Mr Hoy discussed with staff the importance of the service and the difference it makes in young people’s lives.
He said: "The exceptional work being carried out at the Haven is very valuable and I would encourage the Scottish Government to explore providing long-term funding."
Speaking in a Scottish Parliament members debate, Mr Hoy said: “Without places like The Haven, there is a risk that the mental health problems of Scotland’s children today become the mental health problems of the adults of tomorrow.”
