ARTWORK created by people living with dementia will be displayed as part of an exhibition in Longniddry this weekend.

Longniddry Christian Aid team has joined forces with CrossReach, the Church of Scotland’s provider of social care, to bring an art exhibition to Longniddry Parish Church on Saturday.

CrossReach’s ‘Heart for Art’ initiative, established in 2012, provides a space for people living with dementia in Scotland.

It offers free art classes with support from professional artists with enhanced dementia training to allow individuals to experience art, while the group setting also helps to combat the isolation that people affected often face.

Creative activities serve to reduce stress as well as developing focus and promoting cognitive function in people with dementia.

A collection of artwork from participants of the group will be on display, alongside work from East Lothian artists.

Also on offer will be children’s art and craft sessions run by the Picasso Art Club, which currently hosts a weekly group for children at Longniddry Community Centre.

All proceeds raised will be shared between Christian Aid and CrossReach.

The exhibition is open between 10am and 4pm at the church and entry is by donation.

Tea, coffee and home baking will be on sale throughout the day, with light lunch served from noon to 2pm.
