A CHARITY which aims to provide facilities to enable the community to thrive has been represented at the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.
The Lamp of Lothian Trust was founded more than 50 years ago and offers a wide variety of workshop, gallery, hall, office and indoor gym accommodation, catering for about 1,000 people each week.
Jenny Harper, chairperson of the organisation, was the special guest of Craig Hoy, South Scotland MSP, at the historic event at Holyrood.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla were among those in attendance in Edinburgh as the event celebrated not only the Parliament’s 25-year milestone but also the achievements of local heroes from across Scotland.
Mr Hoy, who was previously a Haddington and Lammermuir councillor on East Lothian Council, explained why Jenny was the perfect guest.
He said: “Jenny’s unwavering commitment to the Lamp of Lothian Trust is truly admirable.
“Through her voluntary efforts, she has successfully overseen the trust, ensuring that the Elizabeth Hamilton Buildings – home to both the Bridge Centre and the Poldrate Arts and Crafts Centre – serve as a vibrant space for a wide variety of activities that benefit people of all ages.
“She was also core to the renovation of Haddington House, where she worked hard to transform the building into offices to provide income for the trust.
“Her passion and dedication are the reasons why she was selected from many worthy nominations.”
