BOWLERS in Prestonpans have donated more than £200 to the town's day centre after a recent tournament.

Castlepark Bowling Club, Prestongrange Bowling Club, Prestonpans British Legion and Prestonpans Labour Social Club recently competed for the annual Thomson Trophy.

After a few hours of bowling and refreshments, Castlepark was declared the winner.

Each club traditionally contributes to the catering costs for the event.

However, this year, due to a function in the main hall, the hosts could not provide a buffet. Instead, they offered pies and sausage rolls.

This led to an underspend of £225, which all the clubs agreed to donate to a local charity, selecting Harlawhill Day Care Centre as the lucky recipient.

Steven Thomson, secretary of Castlepark Bowling Club, presented the funds to Harlawhill manager Fiona Mitchell, who was accompanied by some day centre members.

Fiona expressed her gratitude to all involved in raising the sum, which will provide creative activities for those attending the centre, many of whom were once highly regarded bowlers.

She also praised the clubs for their kindness in supporting the elderly community, many of whom cherish memories of attending events there.
