A HADDINGTON teenager assaulted a security guard at an Edinburgh toy store after he had been suspected of shoplifting.

Kyle Ferrier was within the Smyths Toys store at Kinnaird Park when he was confronted by security officer Lukasz Guerlinski, who believed he had been taking goods without paying.

After being asked to empty his camouflage rucksack, Ferrier became aggressive towards the employee during the incident on December 19, 2022.

A second security officer also attended and the pair were forced to restrain Ferrier as Mr Guerlinski was struck in the face.

The security officers kept hold of the teenager until police arrived a short time later.

Ferrier, of Florabank Road, Haddington, denied all the allegations of assault and theft against him and stood trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week.

Following all the evidence, Sheriff Joseph Stewart acquitted Ferrier, 19, of stealing a Lego toy worth £19.99 but found him guilty of assaulting the security officer by striking him to the face.

Sheriff Stewart decided to defer sentence on the teenage offender for him to stay out of trouble and to be of good behaviour to March 25 next year.
