A HISTORY society has kicked off its new season with a talk on remarkable women.

Gullane and Dirleton History Society began its new season of talks with Dr Hanita Ritchie's discussion on 'The Remarkable Women of East Lothian'.

The event took place on September 18 and highlighted the often-overlooked contributions of industrious women in the county's history.

Next Thursday (October 17) at 7.30pm, Bill Lowe will speak on 'A View of East Lothian History... From a Boat' at Dirleton Kirk Hall.

Mr Lowe, known for his boat rides around the East Lothian coast, is expected to provide interesting insights into the subject.

Society members will also have the chance to peruse a selection of locally written books, including George Simpson's Ports and Harbours of East Lothian.
