ENGINEERING works on the East Coast Main Line between Newcastle and Edinburgh will impact rail services connecting East Lothian and the Capital this weekend.

CrossCountry trains will not run between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Instead, replacement bus services will operate between the two cities, calling at Morpeth, Berwick-upon-Tweed and Dunbar.

Meanwhile, LNER trains between Newcastle and Edinburgh will run an alternative hourly route via Carlisle and will not call at Morpeth, Alnmouth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Reston or Dunbar.

The journey will take about 90 minutes longer than usual.

Replacement bus services will call at Morpeth, Alnmouth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Reston and Dunbar.

Lumo services will run between London Kings Cross and Newcastle only.

No TransPennine Express train services will operate between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Finally, on Sunday, buses will replace trains between Edinburgh and North Berwick, and between Edinburgh and Gorebridge.

Today (Friday) also marks the end of the Scottish Government’s off-peak all-day fares trial.

This means that peak-time travel restrictions resume on Monday.
