THE 20th anniversary of Dunbar Harbour Trust was the topic of discussion as Dunbar and District History Society’s new season of talks got under way.
Alasdair Swan, treasurer of the history group, gave the talk, which outlined how the harbour organisation was formed by Act of Parliament 20 years ago on September 30, 2004.
Mr Swan went on to highlight the trust’s achievements and some of the main characters involved with the organisation over those two decades.
A spokesperson for Dunbar and District History Society said: “Between 2004 and 2010, a hydraulic system was fitted to the harbour bridge; ladders were put in for the fishermen to use instead of chains; a fuel distribution service was introduced.
“The most exciting achievement was the complete refurbishment of McArthur’s Store, a project that cost more than £1 million.
“Originally known as Spott’s Girnell, the store has been in active use since 1658.
“Between 2015 and 2024, the major project was the compete transformation of Dunbar Battery into what is now one of Dunbar’s busiest tourist attractions and is also a thriving creative arts centre.”
Judy Riley will give the next talk, entitled ‘Tyninghame – Landscapes and Lives’, at 7.30pm on Tuesday in Dunbar Town House.
