MORE than 50 people have pulled on their running shoes to boost Our Community Kitchen.
Dozens of laps of Haddington’s Neilson Park were completed on Saturday afternoon as people from throughout the community came together.
Funds are still being counted up but Elaine Gale, founder of the group, which is based in Haddington Bowling Club, was hopeful that more than £2,000 had been raised.
She said: “It was amazing.
“A lot of people in the community came along to support us and it was really phenomenal.
“Provost John McMillan did the official opening, Beach Wheelchairs was there and lots of other organisations to support us.
“It was a really lovely community event.”
While some people were working up a sweat and completing steps, others came along to buy raffle tickets or home baking and support the good cause.
Our Community Kitchen, which was formed more than six years ago, was created to tackle loneliness and social isolation by getting people round the dinner table.
It has proven a great success, working with other organisations, including Knox Academy and The Compass School.
Saturday’s fundraiser, which was the second of its kind, was sponsored by Garden Stirling Burnet, and flyers and sponsorship forms are available from Gibson’s, Leisure Time Sports, Haddington Wines and Whiskies, Crossfit Haddington and Haddington Library.
A review of the success of the event will take place over the coming weeks, with the possibility of it becoming an annual fixture in the calendar.
Mrs Gale said: “I think it would be great to do it every year.”
