A COUNTY band has performed at a charity gig to raise money for a member’s niece as she hopes to purchase a new prosthetic leg following a cancer diagnosis.

Jammies ‘n’ Baffies entertained crowds at an event hosted by Lodge Thorntree 1038 on Prestonpans High Street during a recent fundraising charity night.

Jammies 'n' Baffies regularly take part in charity gigs across East Lothian.

The charity gig on September 7 raised £2,520 which will go towards helping band member Andy’s niece.

Jordan Curwen, 31, was diagnosed with cancer in her left heel earlier this year and was told that a below-knee amputation was the only treatment option available.

She is a busy mum to a three-year-old boy and, although she has access to a basic prosthetic leg through the NHS, her friends and family set up a fundraiser so that she could purchase a more advanced version privately to help her to live life as normally as possible.

The price of prosthetic limbs varies depending on the technology of the model.

Andy told the Courier: “The one she’s looking at is £14,000 and that is by no means anywhere near the most expensive one.

“It’s crazy how much they cost when it’s something that just happens to you.”

The charity night also featured a raffle, auction, stand-up set and headline performance from the band, from Prestonpans.

Andy described it as “a great wee night” and was thankful for everyone who helped and attended, including his family who got involved with providing prizes for the auction.

Ahead of the event, he said: “Me and my son are doing a two-hour handyman session, my daughter is doing some nails, and my wife is writing poetry. Jammies ‘n’ Baffies is also doing a gig.”

These four prizes alone raised a total of £535 for the cause.

Andy added: “My wife Annette was really, really good at organising the fundraising. She organised the auction and all of the social media coverage of the night.”

He also thanked Lodge Thorntree for hosting and for their sizeable donation.
