MUSSELBURGH couple Dorothy and Rob Tomlinson celebrated their diamond wedding in style.

The couple, of Edenhall Bank, enjoyed marking the occasion at Musselburgh Over 50’s Club, which meets at the Store Club.

The event, which attracted about 120 well-wishers from the club, took on the format of a wedding, with 12 club members acting as their ‘bridesmaids’ and Sadie Wilkie, a retired registrar who worked at the Brunton Hall, ‘remarrying’ them to mark their 60 years together.

Singer Eddie Raven provided musical entertainment at their celebration, which coincided with club day on September 12. The couple enjoyed their ‘first dance’ together, taking the floor to Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling In Love.

They were presented with a pair of engraved stemmed glasses by the club as a 60th anniversary gift.

Mr Tomlinson, 77, from Greendykes, Craigmillar, first met his future wife when he visited her home at the Wimpey housing estate in Musselburgh with her cousin, who was a friend of his, when they were 13.

Mrs Tomlinson, whose maiden name is Crook, has lived in Musselburgh since she was four, attending Fisherrow School and Musselburgh Grammar School.

The couple were married when they were 18 at the church of St Teresa of Lisieux in Craigmillar on September 12, 1964.

Mrs Tomlinson, 78, was a nurse at Edenhall Hospital in Musselburgh for 40 years and her husband, who worked initially as a welder, went on to run his own business, fitting kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.

They have three children – Denise, Mark and Dawn – six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The couple also enjoyed another celebration with family and friends at the Store Club.
