PRESTON Lodge High School is launching its centenary celebrations with a special film première.

The school, which was established on September 23, 1924, is looking forward to a number of exciting events to commemorate 100 years since it first opened to pupils.

Kicking off the celebrations is a film première taking place next Thursday (September 26) as part of an evening of entertainment and nostalgia, which the public are being invited to attend.

Professional filmmaker Jonathan Charles and English teacher Louise Marr, who has produced films over many years, recently collaborated with students to create a feature which will both showcase the school as it is today and reflect on its past.

Gavin Clark, headteacher, described it as "a must-see film for our community".

Beginning the event will be a screening of a film from the school's 85th anniversary, complemented by some short speeches and special anniversary music.

After the screenings, guests will be able to enjoy mementoes and photographs from the school’s past, and tours of the building will also be available.

Mr Clark said: "Our school is a wonderful place to think, learn and be in, and we are delighted to celebrate 100 years this session.

"Our community is amazing and our school is central to that community and its development.

"Louise, Jonathan and some wonderful students have captured that so well in their brilliant film, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.

"Happy Birthday, Preston Lodge, and here’s to the next 100 years!"

The film première takes place at the school at 7pm.

There are 200 tickets available for members of the public to attend the event; reserve at eventbrite.com/e/pl-100-film-premiere-tickets-1021436884217
