TRANENT Belters are on a mission to raise funds to pay for a new defibrillator to be installed in the town.

The Belters, a social group founded in 1974, are taking on a sponsored walk to raise the necessary funds.

A defibrillator and locker, which requires planning permission to be sited somewhere accessible, costs upwards of £1,500.

There are already three defibrillators in the town and the group hopes to install a fourth in the southern part of Tranent.

A defibrillator gives a high-energy shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest and can save their life.

The Belters’ walk begins at East Lothian Co-operative Bowling Club in Tranent before heading to Macmerry and St Germains Level Crossing, then finishing back at the bowling club for a few light refreshments and snacks.

Sponsorship can be made either by messaging the Belters on Facebook, reaching out to any individual member, or emailing tranentbelters@gmail.com
