A NORTH Berwick schoolboy has cycled his way to raising more than £1,000 for East Lothian Foodbank.

Eight-year-old Fraser Mitchell, a pupil at Law Primary School, tasked himself to pedal the 15-kilometre distance (9.3 miles) from North Berwick to Foxlake, near West Barns, in a single day for the foodbank.

He was keen to take up the challenge after finding out that there were children who were less fortunate than himself.

His original target was set at £300 but he managed to more than triple that figure, raising £1,020.

Eager to help others, Fraser trained all summer and set off in the early hours of September 1, with his dad Paul, 39, accompanying him along the the John Muir Way, Balgone Lakes and Binning Woods, finishing  at Foxlake.

Fraser's mum Pamela, 37, said: "He wanted to raise enough money for food for a family of four. We Googled that and it was said to be around £300, so we set off to try and do that.

"Fraser practised for the cycle all summer long, with lots of routes in East Lothian being his cycle track, and as parents we are just proud of him."

Along the route, the dad and son were cheered on by family and friends until they reached their destination.
