CALLS to police about anti-social behaviour at a building once earmarked to become East Lothian’s first crematorium have dropped.
Permission was given a decade ago to transform Alderston House, to the north of Haddington, into a crematorium.
However, the proposals failed to progress and the Georgian mansion house, which was previously used as a private house and by various departments of East Lothian Council, has become a magnet for anti-social behaviour.
In a report to Haddington and District Community Council, Constable Kiera Edmond said: “At the last CAPP (community and police partnership) meeting, Alderston House was at the forefront of the anti-social behaviour issues in Haddington.
“Thankfully, that appears to have died down now that the schools are back.
“Hopefully that continues.”
The building, which is owned by East Lothian Council, is currently listed as ‘under offer’.
