CONSTRUCTION at a site where work had stopped for several months following the collapse of a housebuilding firm is under way once again.

Half-finished homes and piles of material were left overnight at Letham Mains, on Haddington’s western edge, after Stewart Milne Homes went into liquidation at the beginning of the year.

Dundas took on the residential development earlier this summer and now hopes to fulfil its promise to deliver quality housing to the area.

Craig Fairfoull, sales and marketing director at the West Lothian-based firm, confirmed that work on the 34 remaining homes at the former Stewart Milne development was under way.

He said: “Our team has worked diligently to revitalise this project and ensure it meets the high standards our buyers expect.

“We are pleased to see strong interest already, with several reservations already made, even though not all homes have been released yet.”

The development will see Dundas complete various house types that were similar to those proposed by the previous developer.

Two-bedroom apartments, mid and end terrace homes, and larger detached homes, with up to six bedrooms, will be included on the site.

Dundas is also at the heart of the £35m The Wireworks development in Musselburgh.

In total, more than 800 homes are being built by a number of different developers at Letham Mains, drastically changing the entrance to the town from the west.

The site is already home to Letham Mains Primary School.

The £8.6 million school features 14 classrooms, as well as an early learning and childcare centre.

Facilities at the school, which will eventually become home to more than 400 pupils, include a dining hall, dance space and a two-court PE hall with retractable seating for performance and community space.
