A SIGN erected on a busy road in East Lothian which alleged that a care home operator in the county "abuse their staff" has been reported to police.

The board, pinned to a tree on the A198, just opposite the entrance to the Miller Homes, Ferrygate Meadow development on the western edge of North Berwick, was spotted yesterday evening.

The sign, which has now been taken down, read: "Randolph Hill Abuse Their Staff."

Randolph Hill is the operator of the Fidra House care home in North Berwick, situated on Dirleton Avenue.

The company also operates Muirfield Care Home in Gullane, located at Hall Crescent, off Stanley Road.

A spokesperson for Randolph Hill said: "The comfort, wellbeing and safety of our colleagues and residents is our number one priority.

"We uphold an open-door policy at our care homes so that staff members can raise concerns or issues, should they need to.

"We also follow the relevant guidelines and referrals of the Scottish Social Services Council that our staff have access to, should they need to raise something confidentially.

"We take slanderous claims very seriously and have reported the sign to Police Scotland for investigation.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.10am on Thursday, 5 September 2024, a complaint was made to police about comments made on banners hung in the North Berwick area.

"Enquiries are at a very early stage."
