A CHARITY bowling day in Tranent has been supported by the Musselburgh Over 50’s Club.
Held in memory of Les Rowe, the annual event is organised by his daughter Beverley Forbes and her husband Brian at East Lothian Co-operative Bowling Club & Social Club.
The £500 donation from the Over 50’s Club, which meets at the Store Club in Musselburgh, meant that a total of £3,200 could be handed over to this year’s recipient, the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Beverley said that it was hoped the funding would help the BHF’s sudden cardiac death campaign to fund groundbreaking research that would help save young lives.
The BHF said: “Twelve people under 35 are lost to sudden cardiac death in the UK each week. We need your support to fund the lifesaving research that will help put a stop to this tragic reality.”
Beverley, whose dad Les died suddenly 14 years ago at the age of 77, expressed her gratitude to everyone who continued to support the charity day.
She explained that, since the event started, £64,000 had been raised for a variety of causes and charities, including The Brain Tumour Charity, and to help people with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and motor neurone disease, as well as Women’s Aid, Edinburgh’s Sick Kids, Carefree Kids and East Lothian Young Carers.
The winners of the Les Rowe Trophy this year were team-of-four Chris Rankin, Colin Hall, Paul Blyth and Christopher Robertson.
