PERMISSION has been given to demolish a “structurally unsound” building in a supermarket car park.
East Lothian Council gave the green light to Tesco to allow the building outside its Haddington store to be torn down.
The supermarket giant previously described the outbuilding as having “deteriorated significantly”.
They said: “The building is no longer in use and does not contribute positively to the character or appearance of the conservation area.
“While it holds no specific historical designation, its presence within the conservation area warrants consideration of the current proposal.”
A licensed demolition contractor will now be brought in to remove the building after the local authority’s planning department received no comments about the proposals.
Planning officers agreed that the building “does not contribute positively to the character or appearance of the Haddington Conservation Area”.
