WALK With Scott’s biggest annual charity drive will see keen fundraisers walk through East Lothian’s streets - and there will be a celebratory party at the finish line!

This Saturday will be the 12th iteration of the event, as participants take on an 11-mile walk in aid of the foundation.

The event starts at Cockenzie Royal British Legion at 11am, when attendees will head towards Levenhall and then up to Tranent.

Along the way, the team of walkers will pass through the newly named ‘Scott Glynn Walk’, located on Tranent's southern edge near Windygoul Primary School.

They will stop for an hour to have a well-deserved lunch break at Ross High Rugby Club to refuel, before continuing down to Meadowmill, along to the top of Seton Sands and then back to Cockenzie.

Those taking part are reminded to bring blister plasters, a water bottle, plenty of snacks, a change of socks, comfy shoes for after the walk, and a raincoat in case the weather changes halfway through.

Bags will be transported in a van to the halfway point and the finish line to save walkers from having to carry extra weight.

Once the walkers have completed the 11 miles, a party at Cockenzie Royal British Legion will give everyone the chance to celebrate their achievements and dance the evening away, despite their tired legs.

Alcohol and food will be provided, with vegetarians and coeliacs catered for, and families are welcome to join.

The event is raising money for the Walk With Scott Foundation, which was established by Tranent after-dinner speaker and community fundraiser Scott Glynn MBE in 2013 to mark his 50th birthday.

Scott passed away on New Year’s Day 2020 after being diagnosed with cancer but his charity has continued its work in his memory.

A Walk With Scott charity day took place last week with a packed line-up of live music and raised more than £1,000, which will be added to the money raised by this weekend’s walk.

This year’s fundraising efforts are raising money for The Haven charity, based in Tranent's The Fraser Centre, which supports families living in the area struggling with mental health-related issues.

Karen Kidd, secretary for the Walk With Scott Foundation, said: “Every penny counts and will help so many young people with mental health challenges across our county.”

Karen (far right) and friends enjoyed the charity day, which took place last weekend at Cockenzie House and Gardens as part of its EH32 Live festival.

With the recent live music festival and a golf day earlier in the year, this annual walk tops off a busy year of fundraising for the charity.
