A NORTH Berwick mum's dramatic garden transformation has featured on BBC TV programme Gardeners' World.

Rachel White, 47, recently had an extension added to her house which left her front lawn looking sparse, so she took the opportunity to spruce it up, while sticking to a budget.

She told the Courier: “Instead of just relaying the lawn, I decided to do something more interesting.

“My aim was to attract more pollinators to my garden, increasing biodiversity, as well as creating a space that was nice to relax in.”

She transformed the area while spending only about £100 to demonstrate that big changes in the garden don't have to cost the earth.

She said: “We managed to fill the beds cheaply by growing many things from seeds and then divided plants from my back garden and spread them about.

"The hydrangeas were rescued from the front garden before the front lawn got dug up for the extension.

“Neighbours and family gifted me plants they had grown themselves – it was a real collaboration.”

Rachel's daughters Rebecca, 12, and Anna, 11, also got involved in the project.

Rachel, who lives near Grange Road, sent in videos of her garden to the BBC’s Gardeners' World programme during the Covid-19 pandemic, when viewers were asked to submit their gardens to be featured on the show.

She said: “I thought I would give it a go and see what happened.”

Rachel got an email from Gardener's World to say that her home video was selected for airing.

Presenter Adam Frost described the transformed garden as “incredible”.

Rachel's new garden was shown on the BBC programme on August 9She said: “I’ve had an interest in gardening since a young age but I’m certainly no expert.

“Seeing my garden on TV was really exciting and it felt like a great reward for all our hard work!”
