THIS year’s Musselburgh Open Studio Weekend has been hailed a success by organisers.

Twenty-one artists and crafters took part in the recent two-day event, displaying their work in 10 locations including homes, studios and other venues around the town.

Alistair McIntyre, known as ‘Specky Al’ in his work, announced that he would be stepping back as an organiser of the event to focus on completing his art degree.

But he was delighted to leave it in good hands, paying tribute to Jacky Thow and to Nancy Bryce, who will continue as organisers.

Nancy said: “Overall we had an increase in visitors from Musselburgh and further afield, and some sales; however, the main aim is for local artists and crafters to have their work seen and appreciated.

“What we know is that there are many talented and creative people out there, some well-known and others still to be discovered.

“Based on participants’ feedback there are developments in the pipeline.”

She added: “Thank you to all our participating artists and visitors for making our events a success, including the Musselburgh harbour painting competition earlier this year.”

They are currently in the process of organising a winter arts and crafts fair.

They paid tribute to Mr McIntyre, who established the open studio weekend, and thanked the event sponsor, DTP Southfield printers.
