A REPORT analysing the results of recent food hygiene inspections across Scotland’s local authorities has shown a drop in pass rates in East Lothian.

Following routine inspections by environmental health officers, businesses in Scotland are awarded either a ‘pass’ or ‘improvement required’.

The report, by High Speed Training, highlighted a 96.09 per cent pass rate from 358 businesses in East Lothian.

This places the county 10th in Scotland out of 32 local authorities, with a national average pass rating of 92.5 per cent.

However it also showcased a 3.01 per cent decrease on the 2023 figures, when East Lothian was rated second in Scotland with a pass rating of 99.1 per cent.

The percentage drop saw East Lothian receive the biggest drop in pass rates out of all Scotland’s local authority areas.

The businesses are assessed against several criteria, including hygienic food handling and practices, physical condition of the premises and facilities, and confidence in management.
