RUNNERS will flood East Lothian’s streets on Sunday for the popular annual Scottish Half Marathon and 10k.

The 10k event sets off first at 9am, starting and finishing at Musselburgh Racecourse, with competitors running along the county coast through Prestonpans and then back again.

The half marathon starts at Meadowmill Sports Centre, near Tranent, with athletes setting off at 11am.

Hundreds of runners taking part in the 13.1-mile race will then make their way along the A198 and through Longniddry before heading to the coast towards the entrance of Gosford House.

Competitors will then turn around and head west along the coast road before reaching Cockenzie.

The route then takes runners along Cockenzie High Street before rejoining the B1348 and finishing at Musselburgh Racecourse.

There will be a number of road closures and parking suspensions to accommodate the event, some of which will be in place for the majority of the day.

Meadowmill Sports Centre access road and all connected roads in its entirety will be closed from 10.55am until 11.25pm.

For Port Seton and Cockenzie residents, Links Road Garage will be open as usual with full access until 11am, with restricted vehicle access from 11am to 1pm.

On Links Road, eastbound traffic can only travel as far as Seton Sands Caravan Park.

Event organisers will provide a bus service to facilitate movement between Seton Sands Caravan Park and Cockenzie.

Affecting residents and visitors to Musselburgh is the westbound race route towards the Musselburgh Racecourse finish.

Linkfield Road is open to traffic heading eastbound to Haddington Road and Pinkie Road.

Access out of Hope Place to Haddington Road and Pinkie Road will be maintained until 8.45am.

Between 8.45am and 2.30pm, access out of Hope Place will be via the Musselburgh Racecourse access road.
