A WAITING shelter at an East Lothian train station has been left vandalised after its windows were smashed.
The damaged shelter at Prestonpans Railway Station is located on a platform there and was damaged on Monday morning at about 7.25am.
Pictures shared online show the extent of the damage, with several of the shelter's windows being cracked.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail's customer operations director, said: “Vandalism of any kind has no place on Scotland’s railway.
"Incidents of vandalism take up valuable time in cleaning and repairs unnecessarily.
“We continue to work with British Transport Police to clamp down on unacceptable behaviour and would ask our customers to contact BTP if they see anything suspicious.”
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "We are aware of an incident of criminal damage which occurred at Prestonpans station on Monday, August 12, at around 7.45am
"Enquiries are ongoing.
"Anyone with information should call 0800 405040 or text 61016 quoting reference 131 of August 12."
