A MAN was spotted by police wielding a broken pole as he walked along a Musselburgh street.
Mark Drummond was seen with the weapon as he made his way along the town’s Olive Bank Road and Station Road at about 7.40am on September 3 last year.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told that 21-year-old Drummond had been at a relative’s home and had become involved an argument concerning the recent death of his father.
He had left the Musselburgh property and was walking home when police in a passing patrol car noticed his unruly behaviour while carrying the pole.
The officers pulled over and the court heard that, during a search, they had discovered the pole.
Last Wednesday, Sheriff Gillian Sharp said that she wanted to order a social work report into unemployed Drummond, from Mayfield, before she could impose a punishment and deferred sentence to next month.
Drummond pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing an offensive weapon, namely a broken pole, in Musselburgh on September 3 last year.
The Crown accepted not guilty pleas to two further charges of brandishing the pole at a man and possessing a quantity of cannabis on the same date.
