PRESTONPANS’ community stalwarts could be in line for recognition for their efforts, after the town’s community council launched its own community heroes awards.
The ‘Pride of Prestonpans’ award scheme has been launched by Prestonpans Community Council and they are looking for nominations for the period covering July 1 last year to June 30 this year.
People can now nominate those who have done what they can to benefit the Prestonpans community in any number of ways.
Nominations are open now in a number of categories, including young people (under the age of 18), adults (over-18s) and groups (any age).
In a statement, the community council said: “Prestonpans is a great town. Part of what makes it great is the number of people who, come rain or shine, go out of their way to help others or work to improve the quality of life in our town.
“We also have loads of talented people who achieve excellence in their chosen fields. All of these fabulous folk help us to feel proud of being Panners.
“The community council wants to recognise and promote the efforts of these often unsung heroes in our community. To this end, we are creating an annual ‘Pride of Prestonpans’ award scheme and each year we will seek nominations from the local community to find worthy winners.”
DJ Johnston-Smith, chairperson, said: “It is great that we have finally launched our own awards, as I do believe we are one of the last East Lothian community councils to do so.”
Nominations can be sent in by a form which can be accessed by the Prestonpans Community Council’s Facebook page.
The closing date for nominations is August 31.
