DOZENS of horses and riders ensured that a charity’s summer show proved a great success.

One of the largest horse shows in the county, Muirfield Riding Therapy’s (MRT) event attracted 400 entries to 48 classes.

The charity, based at West Fenton, near Gullane, offers pioneering, life-changing equine-facilitated therapy.

Jo Patrick, show secretary, was delighted with the response, as the event raised more than £7,000.

She said: “What a day we had at our summer show for horses and ponies this summer.

"We saw loads of happy, smiling faces, fantastic riding, and Ken and Barbie, Alice in Wonderland and a rather splendid knight on his steed!”

The winners of each of the classes in the four championship rings went through to their ring’s Championship class.

Winners and runners-up from each Championship class were invited to compete in the event’s Supreme in Show class.

Results:

Ridden Championship Class, sponsored by Garden Solutions - Champion: Brodi Beveridge on Millburren Star; Reserve: Brooke Thomson-Chandler on Charity.

Veteran and Coloured Championship Class, sponsored by Drem Timber & Fencing LTD - Champion: Dawn Colbourne on Who's the Daddy; Reserve: Chris North on Craigderyn Warrior.

Working Hunter Championship Class, sponsored by Garden Stirling Burnet Solicitors and Estate Agents - Champion: Hope Wilson on Charlie Girl; Reserve: Orlaith Bailey on Lenny.

Mountain & Moorland Championship Class, sponsored by Paris Steele Law - Champion: Skye Ramsay on Robin; Reserve: Irene Fleming on Lothian Jura.

Judges then faced a tough task in picking an overall winner but decided on Orlaith Bailey on Lenny as Supreme in Show, with the reserve being Skye Ramsay on Robin.

Capturing the action were professional photographers Zoe Meadows Equine and Pet Photography, and Hands and Heels Photography.

The show secretary praised praised the community support from sponsors, including Andrew Black Haulage and Storage Ltd, and volunteers across the county.

She said: “It would be impossible to run such an event without our team, who all give their time free-of-charge; our judges, volunteer stewards and gatekeepers, our Rotary Club of North Berwick car parking marshals on the day, plus an army of people needed to put on an event like this, and the many, many generous sponsors who help us fund the event.

“We'd like to say a special thank you to the Morrison family for allowing us to run the show at West Fenton Farm & Livery, and to farm managers John and Kerry for their help preparing fields for the event.

“Together, the event raised just over £7,200, which will help ensure MRT is able to provide its pioneering equine-facilitated therapy free of charge to ensure it is accessible to all who need it.”

The next event in the charity’s fundraising calendar is the Winter Series Show Jumping Championships 2024, with four events, starting on September 29.

Open to all ages, the championships especially encourage novice or inexperienced riders and their ponies and horses.
