HUNDREDS of people turned out in North Berwick on Saturday evening for a parade to remember the former long-standing president of the town’s Highland Games.
The annual event, which attracts thousands of people to the town and bands from across the globe, has not taken place this year following the death of John Starr.
Mr Starr founded the event in 1996 and has been at the helm throughout the games’ lifespan.
A parade was held over the weekend and David Campbell, commercial and marketing convenor of North Berwick Highland Games, was delighted with the turnout.

He said: “It went very well indeed.
“We were pleased and we got probably about 500 [in the] crowd, which is the most optimistic we would have hoped for.
“It went really smoothly, which is what we hoped for, but you never know on the night.”
The parade, which took place on the town’s Quality Street, featured performances from both North Berwick and Haddington’s pipe bands, as well as Highland dancers and Voices Choir, North Berwick.
Mr Campbell was pleased with the turnout and previously said that there would be consideration given to the future of the games moving forward.
He added: “[We] were not there to commiserate but to celebrate the man’s life.”
