THIRTEEN new flats are set to be built in Tranent after a planning application was given the go-ahead by East Lothian Council.
William Pierrepont submitted the initial proposal in 2019 and permission has now been granted for the development to the rear of High Street.
The application details the plans for the flats and associated works, comprising hard standing for parking and footpaths, and the erection of boundary enclosures and a bin storage area.
The proposed flatted building will be four storeys in height with a flat-roofed form, while additional parking will be created to provide 16 spaces for residents.
Nine of the 13 flats will comprise one-bedroom units and the remaining four flats will be two-bedroom properties, with two featuring an outdoor terrace.
A report from council planners reads: “This planning application relates to an irregular-shaped area of land measuring some 760 square metres in area that is located to the rear of Nos.73-77 High Street, Tranent.
“The proposed flatted building would make a more positive contribution to the character of the area than the existing unused and somewhat-overgrown site.”
The ground floor of the proposed building would incorporate two flats, a vehicular access pend, bicycle storage, and a meter service area. Solar panels will be installed on its flat roof, concealed by an upstanding parapet wall.
The report concludes: “The site is capable of accommodating all of the proposed development, including satisfactory vehicular and pedestrian access, car parking and vehicle turning space without being an overdevelopment of it.”
