RETROSPECTIVE permission is being sought for a building originally built as a stable block to be used for storage and distribution.
A planning application is being considered by East Lothian Council to “formally” reuse the stables.
The site at Letham Mains Holdings, on Haddington’s western edge, is used as a family business dealing with specialist and luxury goods related to interior design room settings.
A supporting statement included with Mary McMillan’s application notes: “As local businesspeople, the applicants have identified a gap in the local market for a range of specialist goods (tableware, interiors, décor, lights) which are not readily available in other locations within Haddington or East Lothian.
“The applicants are keen to undertake expansion and rationalise their operations.
“Expansion of a small micro business will allow this demand to be met, as well as providing an outlet for local producers, enhancing the supply chain and local wealth building.”
It is not proposed that the new facility would be open to visiting members of the public and instead would be by appointment only.
The supporting statement suggests there would only be two appointments per day.
