MORE than 30 artists are having their work showcased through an exhibition inspired by birds.
Visual Arts Scotland (VAS), a leading platform for national and international contemporary artists, is working alongside Scottish Ornithologists’ Club (SOC) to showcase an exclusive exhibition in Aberlady throughout this month.
‘‘Hope’ is the thing with Feathers’ will showcase 34 artists from VAS’s membership who have created a diverse range of works inspired by birds, exploring the human fascination with them via mythology, symbolism, folklore, superstition and habitat.
From jewellery, ceramics and textiles to garden sculptures, paintings and prints, the exhibition’s different artforms capture a wide range of responses to the theme, and reflect SOC’s aim to promote Scotland’s birdlife.
Laura Gressani, exhibitions coordinator at SOC, said: “We are excited to be working with VAS and their broad membership of artists and makers to reflect on birds, what they mean to us and to our wider environment, and it is a joy to see the varied responses created by such a diverse group.
“Maybe surprisingly, art has always played an important role at the SOC, whose membership included artists from the beginning.
“Art continues to be a key way of sharing the charity’s mission through a continuous programme of art exhibitions inspired by nature at our centre in Aberlady.”
The exhibition runs until September 15. It is open Wednesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm, at Waterston House, Aberlady, and entrance is free.
