A MUSIC and food festival is returning to Archerfield Walled Garden for the fifth year, promising a great family day out in aid of Leuchie House.

Hops in the Garden is welcoming several local artists and groups to take to the stage at the festival next Saturday (August 17).

Included in the line-up is a local ladies' community choir Sister Sister, Midlothian-based Esk Valley Swing Band, and North Berwick Pipe Band, who will kick off the entertainment at 1pm.

Pipe band player Eddie is part of the volunteer team at Leuchie House, which is hosting the festival as a fundraising effort to allow its work to continue, and chairman Stephen Pearson is a member of The Gospel Choir North Berwick, who are performing from 1.30pm to 2pm.

The stage at Archerfield Walled Garden will be filled with talented artists throughout the festival until 6.30pm.

Child-friendly activities, including a silent disco and face painting, are returning after proving a hit at the event last summer.

Local food trucks will also be ready to curb any hunger, with a wide selection of cuisine options available.

The event is raising funds for Leuchie House, Scotland's national respite centre, to support people living with neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and motor neurone disease.

The charity, based just outside North Berwick, provides short respite breaks and other services to those affected by life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Colleen Scott, communications and marketing manager, said: All funds help us give families a break from the physical and emotional responsibilities of caring for a loved one.

“To put it in context, in Scotland over 1 million people are living with a neurological condition and the number of unpaid carers has risen to 1.1 million.

“One in five of these carers have not had a single day’s break in over five years.”

The charity needs to raise £2 million per year to continue to deliver its services.

Tickets for the Hops in the Garden festival are priced at £12, with under-18s going free.
