A HADDINGTON man has been banned from having any contact with his former partner after he admitted vandalising her car.

Matthew Evans wilfully scratched the door of the vehicle belonging to his ex with an unknown object during an incident on the town’s Gifford Road on December 31, 2021.

Evans subsequently appeared in court the following month charged with several offences and was released on bail with the condition he did not have any contact with the woman.

But the 42-year-old breached the court order by repeatedly contacting the woman by sending her unwanted texts, emails, phoning her and contacting her on social media platforms in August 2022.

Evans, of Lammermuir Crescent, was arrested and charged with the offences and he pleaded guilty to the vandalism and the bail breach when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week.

He also had not guilty pleas accepted by the Crown to assaulting the woman by spitting at her, striking her head against a door and uttering offensive remarks to her on December 30, 2021.

Sheriff John Cook fined him a total of £500 to cover both offences and issued him with a non-harassment order where he cannot have any contact with the woman for the next two years.
