POLICE are carrying out enquiries following a break-in and an attempted break-in at a social club in East Lothian over the weekend.

On Friday, a vandal broke into Wiremill Social Club, on Balcarres Road, Musselburgh, at 2.05am, causing damage to the bar area and stealing crisps.

Three days later, the venue was targeted again on Monday morning at about 2am, but the culprits were unsuccessful in their attempt to gain entry.

In a post on Facebook, the club said that the thief in the first incident had "dropped his fidget spinner, hammer and glove, then touched everything".

After the break-in on Monday morning, they said on Facebook: "This is getting ridiculous now. The money this kind of stuff costs the club is unreal.

"This time they didn’t get entry but have cost us money having to replace the locks, which they have damaged in the process of trying to kick the door in.

"The didn’t have gloves on and stupidly for them left the crowbar behind which forensics now have. Any information would be appreciated."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are carrying out enquiries into a break-in at Balcarres Road, Musselburgh which happened around 2.05am on Friday, July 26, and attempted break-in at the same location which happened around 2am on Monday, July 29.”

The latest incidents are not the first time the club has been broken into this year.
